Q: What exactly does the printhead cleaner do?
A: Think of it as a deep-cleaner for your printer. Over time, leftover ink dries up and clogs the microscopic nozzles on your printhead, leading to streaky prints or missing colours. Printhead cleaner breaks down and dissolves that stubborn, dried ink without damaging the delicate components inside your printer.
Q: Can I just use window cleaner or water instead?
A: We highly recommend avoiding DIY liquids. Which can dry out or crack the delicate rubber seals inside the printhead, leading to permanent leaks. Tap water contains minerals that can clog the nozzles even further. A dedicated printhead cleaner is chemically formulated to dissolve ink while lubricating and protecting the printer's internal components.
Q: How do I know if I need to clean my printhead?

Q: How do I use the cleaner?
A: The exact method depends on your printer model, but the general process follows these steps:
Print a nozzle check pattern from your printer's software settings to see exactly which colours are failing.
Open your printer cover, wait for the cartridge carriage to slide to the centre, and unplug the power cord from the wall. Always turn off power before using liquids near electronics.
Remove the ink cartridges. If your printer has a fixed printhead (Epson/Brother), place a folded paper towel under the carriage and use a syringe with silicone tubing to gently flush 1–2ml of cleaner down the ink ports.
If you have a removable printhead (many HP/Canon models), take the head out and let it soak in a shallow dish of cleaner for 30–60 minutes.
Gently blot the printhead dry with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. Reinstall the printhead and cartridges, power the machine back on, and run 1–2 built-in "Printhead Cleaning" cycles to flush out the remaining liquid before printing your next document.
Epson EcoTank Printheads (Piezoelectric Technology)
Epson EcoTank printers use microscopic crystals that vibrate when charged with electricity to push ink out. Because they don't use heat, the ink can sometimes dry out and form stubborn clogs if left sitting, especially in the long ink delivery tubes.
The "Power Cleaning" Trap: Epson printers have a built-in "Power Cleaning" or "Power Flush" feature. Use this sparingly. It pumps a massive amount of ink through the system and fills up your waste ink pad incredibly fast. Always try a manual flush with our cleaning kit before resorting to multiple power cleans.
Clearing Air Locks: Because EcoTanks use long tubes to deliver ink from the tanks to the printhead, air bubbles can get trapped. If you've flushed the head with cleaner and still get blanks, you may need to use a syringe to gently prime the dampers (the small plastic squares sitting directly on top of the printhead) to pull ink back through the lines.
The Paper Towel Trick: Because Epson printheads are fixed inside the machine and difficult to remove, always slide a folded, high-quality paper towel directly under the printhead track before flushing liquid through the ink ports. This catches the cleaner and dissolved ink, preventing it from flooding the bottom of your printer.
